Day 9: Bugga bugga & Cave Run Lake

Thursday was our last morning in Ohio. The nice thing about this trip is since Alice and Simon spent so much time together and were lacking any other young playmates, they really started to play together more. Mainly they chased each other, since Simon is not yet capable or more complex play, although Alice certainly tries. So in Mansfield, they had a lot of fun running around the partition in my parents' house chasing each other. The one time I tried to make a video of it was of course the least rambunctious iteration of this pastime.

Then we packed up and said our sad goodbyes to the Shogren grandparents, and headed for our last stop of the journey: Uncle Pete's fish hatchery in Morehead, Kentucky.

We arrived at the Besants' just before supper, and toured their garden and played in their driveway. During supper, the kids ate virtually nothing, Alice was quite rude, and Simon was his normal disaster. Supper is normally the most unpleasant part of parenting for us, and taking the show on the road had been stressful, to say the least.

After supper, we headed to nearby Cave Run Lake for a boat ride, some swimming and skiing. Alice loves swimming so much that even although the evening was cool, she had no qualms about getting in to a great big lake.

Unfortunately for Alice, she only got to swim for a few minutes at a time, as the skiers transitioned. She was pretty cold by the end, from getting in and out of the water so much, but she never complained.

Simon even did a great job tolerating his life-jacket. It was way past his bed time, but he was pretty well behaved on the boat, as long as he had his pacifier.
