Last day...first day

On the last day of 2016, that tumultuous year in which a maniac was elected president (but not by popular vote! we keep reminding ourselves), we had our first full day in the new house, which was just five days away from being ours, assuming no overbidder appeared. We had underestimated how stressful the uncertainty would be, and even although we kept telling ourselves the chance of someone suddenly deciding to pay 5% more than us to buy a house that was listed as "pending" over the holidays was minuscule, even the slightest chance that all this work would need to go back the other direction was nearly debilitating. Plus we were just exhausted. Or at least I was.

But, we carried on. My parents were indefatigable and Zac was a work horse as always. Stana took the kids to the nearby park to enjoy the nice weather, Zac and Nelson went back to the old house to do some painting touch ups and cleaning, and I unpacked the boxes in the kitchen so we could at least eat.

We all went to bed early, not doing a thing to ring in the new year.
