Normally, Zac makes eggs for breakfast, but since today was father's day, the kids and I had to figure it out.
For father's day, we do our traditional creek stomp. For the past several years, we've gone to a beautiful creek in Umstead forest. The only problem is that it's a big hike to get there, and the kids are getting too heavy to carry, but are not quite capable of hiking long distances reliably. So this year, we opted to go to Few's Ford at Eno River State Park because you can park very close to the river. After breakfast, we packed up the kids and headed out.
It was a fun morning of catching creyfish and trying to catch actual fish. Alice and Simon both had a blast (and of course passed out on the way home).
As always, Simon petered out after a while and wandered off to play.
Zac's favorite gift is a toilet bowl nightlight. Seriously.
Alice got right to work with the new whiteboard markers.
Then they had fun playing with the fort-building stakes.
But perhaps the best gift was that we decided to eat supper without telling the kids it was supper time. So Zac got to at least eat his hamburger in peace.
Unfortunately, the kids did eventually show up. And somehow they ended up dipping their hamburgers in honey.
Simon laughs hysterically whenever we wipe him off after a meal.
Then it was time for more fort building--with new flashlights and glowsticks.
