Alice and Simon continue to have lots of fun in the bath every night.

Eating Ice Cream out of the Carton

One time, Alice saw Zac finishing off a carton of ice cream by eating out of the carton (to save a dish). She thought it was the craziest thing ever (which goes to show that we are generally civilized, after all). So when the carton of vanilla ice cream got down to one scoop, I asked Alice if she wanted to eat out of the carton. Her eyes got big with joy immediately. She loved getting to eat the ice cream right out of the carton.

Simon's less of an ice-cream eater right now, and usually requests jelly beans for his after-dinner treat. He gets five, and gets to pick the colors. Zac is happy because Simon likes the black (licorice) ones, which means he has officially earned the right to carry on his great-grandfather's middle name of Xon.

Kids in the Crib

I love how the kids will play together in the mornings. Alice will often get in Simon's crib with him, since he can't get out. She first pulls the colored light over, so they can have fun changing the colors. I don't really know what they're doing, but I like that they've invented their own games together.

Alice's 4th Swim Lesson

On Sunday afternoon, Alice had her fourth swim lesson. We're not too impressed with the swim teacher, but she sure gets the most she can out of the lessons. She's made a lot of progress, given that she gets instruction for probably a grand total of 5 minutes during each lesson (since the lessons are only 30 minutes and she's sharing the teacher with five other kids.)

Art Museum Park

We went to the art museum park this morning. The kids had a great time climbing all over the boulders. Simon is finally able to climb around on everything without much risk of falling.  Meanwhile, Alice worked on her ledge-walking skills. 

 

The kids always like to talk to each other through this tunnel.

  

The kids had fun decorating me with dandelions and grass. Alice said this was so "You'll be camouflaged and the fox won't eat you." At another random point she said something like, "Mom, you can die when Simon and I know how to behave." I told her I hope I don't die then, because it will be so wonderful once they always behave.

Alice said, "Look, it's a duck on a stick!" 

At the end, in a little grassy field before walking up to the parking lot, Alice told Zac to stand very still and be the sun and she would be the Earth. It was very windy, so after going around the sun, she said, "The Earth is blowing away!"

Pollen Cleaning

In the afternoon, Zac did the annual porch pollen cleaning. Just a note, climate change doubters, we did this on April 18 last year.

Alice's Easter Money

Alice had been obsessed with the coins from the Easter eggs all week, and she kept asking to go spend it, promising that she would "buy something healthy." This was a bit confusing until I figured out she wanted to go to the grocery store to spend her money. This is probably because whenever we're at the grocery store and she wants something that I don't want to get, I tell her she can buy it when she has her own money.

So I helped her count it out. It came to a grand total of $6.40. I asked her what she wanted to buy, and her main objective was to get a watermelon. We went straight to watermelon bin at HT, but they cost $7.99 each. Luckily, in the refrigerated fruit section, we found a watermelon wedge that only cost $1.99.  Alice was happy to discover she had money left over. When I put some bananas in the cart, she said, "Mom, you have to buy those with your own money." With her remaining money she ended up buying a slice of rainbow cake and a bouncy ball. She shared the cake and watermelon with all of us. Such a generous kid!

I refilled the water vase for the flowers and put a napkin under it to catch the drips. Alice continued the pattern.

Kids cooking supper

If we just ate Pasta Roni and canned green beans, the kids could cook supper for us!

Simon was so cute and kept saying, "I'm cooking green beans! Careful, they're hot!" Even although he was just stirring room-temperature beans. It kept him busy though!

Kids in the backseat

I picked the kids up from daycare on Friday after Simon's egg hunt. I stopped at Harris Teeter on the way home to pick up the grocery order, and made this video while we waited. The kids were a bit more bonkers than normal because they'd each had a pack of gummies, from Simon's egg hunt.

Simon's Spring Celebration at School

On Friday afternoon, the parents were invited to come to Simon's class's spring egg hunt. So I came and had a good time watching Simon and all the cute kids.

Fashion Week

It's been quite the fashion week here, as I spent the first day of my spring break washing and sorting the next round of clothes (hand-me-downs from my sister's kids, kept in the attic). Alice has been enjoying her expanded selection of dresses, often paired with Easter-themed accessories and shoes that I don't let her wear out of the house.
