One of Anna's moms, Jenn, got remarried today. So the first wedding our kids have ever been to was a lesbian wedding. The ceremony was outdoors (in the way-too-hot sun) at the Rose Garden at the Raulston Arboretum. The reception was at the Royal Banquet Hall. Luckily Natasha and Izzy went too, so we had someone to hang out with. Simon whined a lot, but on the whole we made it through.

Garden Update
The wildflower patch is doing well, although from a distance it just looks like a bunch of weeds. The volunteers from our compost turns out to be not cucumbers, but decorative pumpkins.

Simon's May Fish
Fishing season is in full swing again. Simon usually fishes with the neighbor, Calvin, so I get a lot of these pictures from him.

Fun at Izzy's
In past years we've had campouts at Izzy's on Memorial Day weekend, but it was a lot of work for one night when we live so close, so I was relieved when the invitation was just for a bonfire this year. So much easier to stay up late and have fun, but get to sleep in your own bed and not have to pack/unpack tents and bedrolls. The exciting events this year were giant bubbles, hula-hoops, and Erik's new sawmill.
New Flower Bed
Zac's spring project is improving the bed between our mailbox and garage, next to the driveway. We tried planting some native plants, but they didn't take over as much as we'd hoped, and the bed was just weedy and messy.

The Garden Grows
Simon loves having a garden every summer. He checks on it every day and asks to use my phone to take pictures of his plants. This year Zac build another set of raised beds above the current set.

Flower Farm
Jess and Rosa had the idea to go out to this flower farm in Hillsborough where you can cut your own flower bouquets for $20. It wasn't the sort of thing we'd normally do on our own, but it seemed like a fun social outing and something the kids would like. It stormed on the drive there, but cleared up when we arrived. It was humid, but beautiful.

Mother's Day?
Because technically it is July 11th as I write this blog entry (got a bit behind due to the California trip and a busy life), I have no memory of Mother's Day this year. All I have is a photo I took of the card Alice made me.

Mud
Our pond is low again. Something about a leak in the drain at the other end. So we have a big mud flat in front of our house again. The only good thing is that the ducks and water birds love it. And the kids.

Eno River
We went to our favorite spot at the Eno River (Bobbit Hole trailhead) to enjoy the lovely weather. It was funny though, after being in California, all the rocks and trees seemed so small.
